National Secular Society: LAAG participating & keynote speaker Richard Dawkins

LAAG will have a stand at this fair, and we will give attendees the opportunity to  'Ask an atheist'.

'"Ask An Atheist' – Want to know what atheists REALLY think? Ask questions and get answers. It might not be what you expect".

(I know this suggests that all atheists think the same thing, which is obviously not the case ...but the 'marketing' of the message is simpler and more succinct that way ;-)) Anyone who wants to participate  in 'Ask an Atheist' (you'd be giving answers of course!), or just hang around with us at the stand welcome to join us at the LAAG Stand as and when they want to. Look forward to seeing you.

Adrian and Ginny

This years National Secular Society annual conference has a great line up of speakers including Richard Dawkins as the keynote speaker and since a lot of us have never heard him speak and missed out on The Ancestor's Trail this is an opportunity too good to miss! It will take place Saturday 22nd September in central London (no venue announced yet).
Other speakers include:
Secularist of the Year Peter Tatchell
Nia Griffith, MP
Maryam Namazie
Nick Cohen
Pragna Patel
Prof Ted Cantle CBE
Tickets are priced £35 or £10 for the first 50 students - with a valid photo ID. The price includes lunch and refreshments.
The NSS are selling these tickets at cost.
I reckon this will sell out fast so buy your tickets ASAP!

Apart from the great speakers, it was actually a lot of fun as well - our stand was busy and people were keen to stay chatting and have a laugh with us :-). Our LAAG T-shirts also proved a hit, and next time we'll do some of Richard's posters as they were much requested. Some good contacts made with other organisations for future collaboration & a well organised event by the NSS. People commented that the LAAGer stand had so many people involved and participating - thanks all, you helped make it great day.

It was really fun to meet people and have a laugh. I think they were shocked that we all had a sense of humour;)

Excellent day with a lot of attention at our 'Ask An Atheist' stand. Something over 200 people took cards for LAAG which is fantastic and exceeded expectations as it was a national event. The speakers were mostly excellent and we had a good laugh down the pub afterwards! Thanks for all the support and especially those who helped us to man the stand and provided materials, in particular Richard who made the banners.

Excellent! Dawkins was, as usual, erudite, outspoken and amusing.

Just to clarify, I assume that we ALL need to purchase tickets, whether or not we are helping to run the stand etc? I just wanted to be certain before I spend £35. Thanks

I looked at the website today and it said it was all sold out, so I left it too late :-( Hope the event goes well for all (including the stalls and the people running them).
