COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

Officially debaptised (according to C of E's own ritual -- no priest required) and subsequently ordained atheist minister.

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

NSS has abandoned atheism; BHA too soft on sectarian schools. As a gay man, my entire life has been blighted by xtian homophobia. Despite advances in UK legislation and social attitudes over the past decade, young LGBTIQ people STILL suffer from this legacy. (Another article in today's "Independent" on homophobia and consequences: www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/mental-health-crisis-looms-for-gay-teenagers-9053688.html ) During my lifetime, the influence of the C of E has waned, (though politicians and broadcasters still kowtow to it): but faithist fundamentalists in immigrant communities demand MORE religious rights, and send children for indoctrination in ghetto schools, (DESPITE recommendations by government advisers since the 2001 Bradford riots). Michael Gove has unilaterally repealed planning restrictions for faithist schools: and seems to be getting away with this, effectively unopposed.

Where did you hear about us?

Email from "Atheism UK" with invitation to "Grand Inquizition".

(You're welcome as a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure - but would you want to be involved (at some stage) in actively challenging faith in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

Potentially. But not this week.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

"Versatile" ;-) With OutRage! employed direct confrontation and also writing to Gov.t ministers. As an individual I continue to write, when the spirit moves me, to Gov.t ministers: but when alone employ direct confrontation rather more sparingly.

Introduction

Former software developer and adult nurse, now retired. Activist history: LGBTIQ, environment (esp. air pollution), health (poor hospital standards), assisted dying, religious privilege and abuses, sectarian schools, ...
