COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

A very faithful believer. I don't see how anybody can doubt the holy creator of the universe. Praised be It, the holy Flying Spaghetti Monster.

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

"Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities." --- Voltaire. I think that sums it up nicely. And if we have a look at the world, there is at least a strong correlation (and assuming a causation is at the very least plausible). So essentially, we have to find non-violent ways to educate others.

Where did you hear about us?

Through other meetup groups.

(You're welcome to be a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure) - but would you like to be involved in actively challenging faith yourself in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

Sure, why not. If I'm convinced there's a point in it, I'll join.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

I typically do it the hard way. Speak to people directly. If you see a stall of people offering religious pamphlets, go there and talk to them. But make sure you have enough time. For example, to get Jehovah's Witnesses to understand and accept evolution takes about 3-4 hours. Your average catholic takes an hour. Converting atheists to the one true religion, Church of FSM, takes forever, though. They're the most stubborn.

Introduction

We will never have a free society until we throw out our mental rubbish.
