“A pinch and a punch, it’s the first of the month…”
Originating from old England times when people thought that witches existed. People thought that salt would make a witch weak, so the pinch part is pinching of the salt, and the punch part was to banish the witch. The witch would be weak from the salt so the punch was to banish her.
Yes well ... after that old claptrap superstitious nonsense…here’s a brief round-up of last month, and what’s coming up in July for us…
1/No special non-religious days to celebrate this month, but there is:
- Codebreaker, Alan Turing’s Life and Legacy exhibition at the science museum (thanks to Jodie for this)
- Support our fellow LAAG member, Alom Shaha, on Jul10th for launch of ‘the young atheists handbook’ and drinks reception
- Our annual picnic on Jul15th ( Meetup 8)...All details of meetups etc are on the LAAG site of course.
(No agenda for meetup 8 as it’s purely social for us Laagers to get lagered up at our picnic ;-)
We have Jodie to er…thank? ;-) …for this 'Laagers' moniker, LOL!
Write-up of meetup 7 is under “PAGES’ from top menu….
2/ Competition this month: some have you have already inadvertently answered (ok, I let the cat out of the bag at meetup 7…ooops!) – your entries will still count!:
Q: How do you get rid of a doorstep JW?
Be as creative/ irreverent/tangential as you want… songs/poems/artwork …whatever!
Due to Olympics travel disruptions, we will not be scheduling any meetings etc between Jul 21-and Aug 15th, therefore everything is brought forward by a week…thus you only have until closing date 8/7 to get your entries in.
3/ Please ‘like’ LAAG on facebook :-) Either click on the icons on LAAG front page , or below:
…and you can now also follow LAAG on twitter: LonAtheistActivistGo@MeetupLAAG
4/ Make a difference - We have several campaigns running – many take only 1-5 mins to do …
That’s it for this month’s round-up folks, well done for all you Laagers for your contributions on site - so many interesting and worthwhile things going on thanks to all your efforts.
... and a special mention for Frances Janusz, who managed to do some leafleting for our marriage equality campaign, despite the terrible weather. Great stuff Frances!
That's it for this month folks ...don’t forget to do your anti-rain dances so we can have our picnic on Jul15th!
