Your monthly newsletter - Here’s what’s coming up in November:
1/ MEETUPS, EVENTS & NON-RELIGIOUS CELEBRATION DAYS THIS MONTH:
a. Midweek Special Events Nov 14th & 16th: Chat informally with one of "world's leading sceptics", Dr. Richard Carrier! (Nov 14th), ....and Free for LAAGers who attend on Nov 14th is a formal talk (Nov 16th) in association with CFI/BHA: The quest for a historical Jesus. (Carrier disputes that Jesus existed)
Spaces are filling up fast!
P.s. If any of you are drama/theatre buffs, please introduce yourselves to Jen (Richard's partner) as Richard says this is her interest area, and has specifically asked that we try and put her at ease. Understandably she may be a little nervous about meeting us all "up close and personal"! (Thanks to Jodie for initiating this event)
b. Monthly Social Meetup 25th Nov, plus Guest Speaker, journalist Katherine Stewart (thanks to Helen Palmer for initiating this event)
c. No special secular dates in Nov (unless you count Nov 5th Bonfire night ...poor old Guy Fawkes!)
There are also a couple of interesting events with our friends from CLHG ...please check the events boards
2/ CAPTION COMPETITION: Suggested By Barry Ryder ...Saville shaking hands with Pope. Grrr.
3/ CAMPAIGNS – We'll entertain other ideas as usual, but LAAG will now focus primarily on an underlying single campaign aimed specifically at knocking 'The Ists' off the moral high ground. Ethics is a clear target..we want to uncouple the categorisation of Religion with Ethics/Morality in organisations such as the BBC, and ask for a disclaimer on religious material e.g. "this programme contains unsubstantiated material". Martyn will be starting a new forum for this, and thanks to Alastair for volunteering and already coming up with solid ways in which we can start. Please lend them your support and ideas etc...thread 1, thread 2 , thread 3.
As well as our many on-going campaigns, there are also some new ones this month, including dealing with cruelty in fishing, petition against a new london super mosque, and report the shysters. Please see the campaigns board - most take 1-5 mins to make a difference!
A Quick Roundup of last month... our usual 2 group meetups, various external events... and a warm welcome to all NEW LAAGers who joined in October.
1/ Camp Quest UK's Winter Party: Camp Quest, the summer camp for free-thinking children, is hosting a Winter Party to bring non-religious families together, and to enjoy a range of summer camp-style discussions and games. £15 adults, £5 kids, Conway Hall, 15th Dec. To book, click here. Any questions - [address removed], or 07759512118. Please feel free to share this with families you know.
2/ Any drummers out there? Our resident band 2/3/4/5 pints of LAAGer would like to hear from you for 1 or 2 informal gigs a year. No commitment, just a bit of fun! Reply to this email or post on the discussion board.
3/ Two Comedy shows: Expect to see tomorrow's stars today from the Comedy club that discovered Michael McIntyre (see pg 231 of his bio!), had Jimmy Carr as compere, and hosted Mitchell and Webb (Peep show) for BBC previews. Should give you an idea of the standard!
- Stand-Up Comedy, Thurs 22 Nov, The new Inn, 62 saint mary's rd, Ealing W5 5EX: Several LAAGers have been already; Kieron said "thought it'd be 'ok' but was surprised at the calibre of comics". To reserve tkts at 20% off (£8 for LAAGers and CLHG) email [address removed] with your name, contact no + no.of tickets, otherwise £10 on the door.

Have a great month everyone, thanks for your support and special thanks as always to our Premium LAAGers who regularly add so much wit and wisdom!! If anyone would like something included in the newsletters, or any other thoughts/feedback ...do let us know.
