The Information Architect's Challenge to an "Outside In" Paradigm Shift in ICT

Guest Speaker: Ian Flaherty from Cap Gemini: Traditionally Information Architects have focused on the management of information associated to changes in improvement of the internal systems and to publishing demands very much an “Inside Out” mentality. However today the use of information technology within an enterprise has moved to embrace a wider set of business requirements with more emphasis on using information and technology to engage more effectively with the market, customers and suppliers. There are new demands ranging from the business use of new devices (e.g. iPads) through to building new products around external cloud ‘services’ This discussion ‘joins up’ these various issues and sets key questions as to how Information Architects can be effective in a world that exploits these “Outside In” technology opportunities. As a first visit to this group it was the topic that attracted me. Coming into information architecture from outside it was interesting to see how the issues we are experiencing are the same for those more 'seasoned'. Whether that leads to more excitement than trepidation that seemed to split the audience we shall see. Ian spoke very well and clearly on a topic that can lead others into an overly detailed funk or a sea of acronyms, suffering from neither. Great to get the slides as a follow up. Thanks.

It was good to meet so many people in the same field and to share stories and ideas - the presentation was first rate and the subsequent discussion interesting and helpful

As Inside-Out transitions to Outside-In application by application over time, how will a 360-degree view of customers behaviours in an integrated multi-channel (shop, web, call centre, ....) EDW be maintained?
