Good news: I'll shortly be announcing some additional Saturday meetings. I have a long list of fascinating speakers lined up, who have agreed in principle to come and speak at our meetings.
Also look out for some forthcoming news about "Google Hangouts" for London Futurists - where a group of us can discuss a topic online, in real-time, from the comfort of our homes, using some of the new technology that many of us find so interesting.
To help with some of these developments, I'll be asking for a number of volunteers, to get involved on an occasional basis.
The first volunteers that I would appreciate are three or four people who can take it in turns to help "meet and greet" attendees at the Saturday afternoon meetings at Birkbeck. For meetings when an entrance charge applies, this will involve checking the names of attendees against those who have already paid, and politely requesting cash payment from people who have not yet paid.
Note: these payments will go to covering the (not inconsiderable) cost of room hire at Birkbeck. If someone wishes to attend a meeting but genuinely is unable to pay the modest attendance charge, we will of course waive the fee.
I'm always interested to hear suggestions for how we can improve the experience for London Futurist members - which speakers are the most interesting, what topics are the most important, and what other kind of activities (apart from our speaker meetings) we should organise. If you have a good suggestion, and you are able to volunteer to help make that suggestion a reality, then so much the better!
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, or you are able to join the ranks of the London Futurist Volunteers. Note: all Volunteers get to attend all meetings for free, for the next six months.
