ICT4D tweet-up at the Museum of London bar

This month's ICT4D meet-up will now be

Drinks and Networking Nibbles at the Museum of London bar

Sorry if, like us, you were looking forward to the planned

participatory video event at Google Campus,

which we have been forced to cancel.

This was due to one of the proposed speakers breaking an ankle and another being sent on a last-minute overseas assignment.

We will try to re-arrange that event at a later date.

So we'll see you at the Museum on London bar on

Thursday 30th from 6:30

Kind regards

Tony

Hi all, I'd love to there but I'll be carrying out some PV for M&E fieldwork in Kenya! That said, my colleague Gareth Benest can join in. Enjoy and share later on your thoughts! I'd love to hear about it in the next ICT4D monthly meeting.

Hi Soledad. Have just seen your website - brilliant. For an evaluation in Ethiopia we used video after (not during) Focus Group Discussions. The participants were so articulate following the FGD it had a big impact when relayed to HQ staff. One of the crucial benefits was keeping their voice in their own language. One evaluation staff nearly translated wrongly time it took to collect water (9 hours!) partly because it was so unbelieveable. If that error was made on 'paper only' it would have been unnoticed. On video - you can't escape errors in translation!

This was in itself (in 2011) a revolutionary method for the NGO so to use video participatorally and throughout the M&E process would be a big mind shift. Have you had much joy with the large NGOs? Sorry I'm getting way too excited about this!... best wait for the discussion and ask questions of your colleague. All the best in Kenya! Becky

Hi Becky! Thanks for your message. Your work sounds really interesting as well. I'd love to chat about it if you come to the next meet up end of June? Yes, we had great experiences using PV for M&E as it helps triangulate data (as per your example!) and also creates more space for downward accountability. Feel free to drop me a line if you want: [masked] Cheers!

I'd love if this can happen one week earlier or a month later! If I can't make it, I hope you Tony can share the learning :) Or I can try to send someone else in our team.

I know our events are supposed to be the last TUESDAY of the month but the venue wasn't available then so I've gone and broken the rule.
    Shoot me now!
