Hey folks, inspired by that awesome evening, I'm plaigarising the topic idea for a live online debate on the Guardian (here: http://bit.ly/YmHxyi). Would be great to have you guys involved - in suggesting panelists, being panelists and joining the discussion Thursday 11 April at 1pm. Intro blog goes live Monday but do get in touch if you have any ideas. Thank you kindly!

Thanks to the speakers last night, really interesting event as always! To anyone who attended the last tweetup held at Google Campus back in September, I spoke about community mapping work with OSM in Western Kenya. The final report is now available here; http://issuu.com/ugunjaresearch/docs/blankspot Keen to hear any feedback. Sorry for hijacking this space!

Olly, I saw your report about the amazing work you did in Kenya with OpenStreetMap. It's impressive and inspirational stuff. I hope other academics will be inspired to build upon it. Your conclusions about the challenges of 'scaling up' are thought provoking too. Sorry I didn't get to chat to you on Tuesday night, but we should meet some other time. For example... *cheeky plug* .... there's an OpenStreetMap Hack Weekend this coming weekend, which will likely involve humanitarian map hacking projects among others.

Harry, thanks glad you like the report! We are keen to hear opinions and create discussions - and certainly in terms of the next steps for small scale mapping projects. Really sorry I've only just seen this comment, but I hope the OSM Hack weekend was good! Will hope to catch you at the next tweetup!

Hi all.. I think it was a very positive and interesting evening. I would be very interested in talking to people who wish to discuss how ICT4D can really support social justice in the UK specifically. As one of the speakers mentioned I dont think majority of people whose sites Facebook understands that they are the product and the revenue stream. The internet could be a very empowering tool if we co-operated more sharing skills, networks and influence to target mass audiences.

I am really up for discussion on that subject Jason. Sad lack of development and social justice hereabouts. Maybe we could appropriate technology to tackle some of these problems http://appropriatingt...

Hi Tony.. I wrote you an email, to discover it is not possible to send it to you.. I read your blog and much of it resonated with me. I have similar ambitions of how ICT can increase a more informed engagement within our communities. I would like to discuss with you the possibilities of linking those who are interested in this conversation or vision somehow? [masked]

Really enjoyed it as well! I was wondering whether the speakers would be amenable to sharing their presentations? It would be good for teaching purposes, as long as we respect their IP! (Dr) Savita Bailur, LSE

I think today's Twitter discussions displayed a need for this ict4d group to really discuss what we mean by development and whether it really is about advocacy or about a continued colonialism.

Cheers Dorothea, hopefully we will get a few more members like Justine willing to engage and talk about future possibilities. And thank you Justine for reaching out. I can't wait to get this conversation started, an email will be hitting both your inbox's shortly.

The exchange with Nishma, Tony and Dorothea inspired this comment on Ken Bank's post "The Truth about Disruptive Development" - would encourage others to comment there too http://www.ssireview....

Damn sounds like I missed a really good discussion! Hopefully my (broken) foot will have healed by the next meetup!

DOROTHEA - you posted a link to some southern scholars counter-hegemonic writings which sounds extremely interesting, but the link doesn't seem to work. CHOIKE does appear in Google but the site doesn't load - I don't suppose they're cross-posted anywhere else? :-)

Thanks for hecking it Matt. choike.org down today, was up yesterday and I can't find it reposted. We have the book... However, similar versions of the chapter by Gurumurthy & Singh are here: http://www.itforchang.... Hope this helps!
