3d Machine Learning Meetup

For the third meetup, our friends at the Forward Internet Group are hosting us. Many thanks!

Alex Davies from the University of Cambridge will be giving a talk about his research on using Bayesian models to measure the mood of the world.

Our second speaker is Thore Graepel from Microsoft Research Cambridge. Thore will be talking about how Microsoft uses machine learning for computational advertising.

As always, places are limited so if you know you can't make it, make sure to update the RSVP so other people can come.

Also, remember this meetup is part of the Big Data Week. There are loads of other meetups that should be of interest to this group: e.g. Londata, Big Data Meetup, Community Meetup, Hadoop Meetup, ... Be sure to register early as places are limited.

Looking forward to see you all!

First time I went and I found it really interesting to see how others are using machine learning. I find that more and more developers are trying to get into machine learning as their employers start to see the benefits but that also means that they have to learn on the own and on the job (that's my case) so any exchange like that is very welcome indeed. I just wished Alex had delved a bit more into the technical details of his work, and that Thore had been given a bit more time for the whole presentation (he had to rush at the end). Also, it's great to hear about how they got results, but I would have liked them to maybe elaborate a bit more about the challenges that they faced, but I guess I simply should read about the material they posted online. Next time, I'll try to read that before coming to the meet-up so that I can think of interesting questions to ask. Overall, really positive, thanks a lot!

Great talks. The second talk was very interesting but too long for an evening meetup IMHO.

Great talks and great people as usual. Maybe come up with a better way of distributing freebies to the group than a mad dash at the end of the evening! - And this from someone who managed to get a book!

I'll definitely ask the speakers for the slides; video probably won't happen as I don't have the equipment. If you have ideas/suggestions to get it recorded, let me know though.

Yep I'm with Matthew, will the meetup be captured on video for the waitlist?

Would be great if the slides end up online for those of us unlikely to make it off the waiting list :)
