London Bridge to Greenwich Foot Tunnel

Here we have our walk. We will be following the Thames Path Walk, Tower Bridge to Greenwich which is around 5 miles via the North Bank.

The walk start at Tower Bridge and finishes at Greenwich Foot Tunnel.

This will be a relaxed and easy walk suitable for most people.

For the first part of the walk we will stroll at a pace allowing us to chat and enjoy our surroundings.

The second part of the walk we will walk in silence ( walking meditation ).

As with all our walks we may end with some more social time in a cafe or pub. This depends on how tired we are !!!

We are not just a walking group, the social aspect and connecting with like-minded friends is what makes our group so special.

We start with a Social cuppa and a chat

We are meeting in Pret A Manger which is the perfect location, right near the North Bank entrance to London Bridge. We will start off the day with some social time where we expect to be at Pret for between 30 minutes to an Hour. We have a space reserved so please be sure to purchase refreshments and or snacks there. Time to bond over a cuppa before the walk.

The Walk

Welcome to a stretch of the River Thames that's full of East End character, where the views are superb and the pubs alone are worth the walk.

Enjoy a stroll along the Thames Path as it winds its way through some of the most evocative spots on the historic riverbank, from Tower Bridge, Tower of London, St Katherines Dock, Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs to the home of the Mayflower and the glorious Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.

You'll pass the places where pirates hung in chains; where Turner painted and Dickens set his scenes; where Brunel tasted his first success and most bitter failure and where dockers 'grafted' until their backs bled. This section traces the rise, fall and resurrection of London's great docks, which traded widely with the Empire and the world and bore the brunt of the Blitz in the Second World War. Largely silent since the 1960s, they are born again with warehouses converted to apartments and cafes and new housing now lining once-busy wharves.

Contemporary life has also made its mark in the striking form of Canary Wharf's towers, the Millennium Dome and the Thames Barrier - the official end of the National Trail.

It is possible to carry on walking along the river, beyond the barrier it is called the "south east extension" or "north east extension" and is waymarked with barge symbols rather than the National Trail acorn.

NOTE There are some diversions in place due to works that may still be taking place. Hopefully there will be clearly marked diversion signs for us to follow due to one of the footbridges being closed.

What to expect

Please note we are not Tour Guides, we are Spiritual Friends who enjoy walking. If history and the sites are of particular interest to you then you may wish to download the audio guide to bring along with you http://walklondon.org.uk/uploads/File/sections/Thames%20Path%20-%20Section%203%20(Tower%20Bridge%20to%20Greenwich%20and%20the%20Thames%20Barrier).mp3

although this may detract from the social side of our walk and chat.
For your information we will be walking Section 3 of the Thames Path Walk http://walklondon.org.uk/section.asp?section=52

I will message my contact details by the morning of the event to those who RSVP. Please remember to bring this along on the day.

How Much is the Walk ?

There will be an organisers fee of £5 per person to join us for our walk and social. This will be collected on the day.

Why the fee ?
Because I organise the walks and socials, administer and market the group and provide a platform for connecting like-minded spiritual friends to connect on a social level.

What time does it finish ?

The walk will be followed by some social time. We go with the flow. Some of us like to chat a lot !!! :-) Maybe even have a bite to eat.

What to bring ?

Bring yourself, and suitable clothing for rain or shine and comfortable walking shoes or boots.

Bring the organisers contact telephone number which will ensure that you can find the group on the day.

This will be supplied to those who RSVP the day before the event.

What if it rains ?

We will still walk if there is a little rain. Wear suitable clothing.

If it is a completely miserable day then we will head for somewhere undercover where we can enjoy socialising and chatting. Our meetup will still go ahead and a good time will still be had !!!

Meeting Point

Head for the large table at the far end and you should find us.

Directions to Pret a Manger

43 King William Street, London EC4R 9AN

Exit Monument Tube station (District Line). Head towards the Monument on your right. Turn right into King William Street. Turn left towards the river. The shop is on the north end of London Bridge.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

DISCLAIMER: We walk as a group of friends. We cannot be held responsible for any injury/illness while walking. Members walk at their own risk and should ensure that they are fit enough and adequately prepared before attempting the walk. Anyone wishing to leave the group en route must notify the group leader.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If you RSVP, PLEASE PLEASE note this means that you are going to be joining us. We will be expecting you !! Depending on the event, we may have a space reserved for you, we may only have limited spaces for some events and socials. If you just don't turn up this can often prevent another person from coming along as well as causing other problems !!! I realise plans change and sometimes people can not make it. If so then please UPDATE your RSVP at least 24 hours before the event. It only takes a second to do this.

The high percentage of No Shows in 2013 was shocking.
