Trading software evening seminar & networking event

  • Apr 19, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We are pleased to announce that we have secured 2 additional panel members for this software evening seminar event. Subject to any last minute changes we should be covering the following platforms:

Matlab, MetaTrader, MultiCharts, NinjaTrader and TradeStation.

This broad selection of platforms will enable us to provide a good overview ranging from institutional requirements all the way to simple entry level strategies and indicators.

Trading software evening seminar & networking event

Fellow systematic traders, we would like to invite you to the next LST event organised in collaboration with the Financial Engineers & Quants London meetup. This event will specifically focus on the more popular software trading platforms suitable for automated or semi automated trading.

The intention is to cover the more popular trading platform including MetaTrader, NinjaTrader, TradeStation and possibly others*

The evening will consist of brief overviews, discussions and Q&A. As always audience participation and exchange of ideas will be very strongly encouraged. Our panelists should all have had enough coding, back testing and trading experience to be able to provide a hopefully very interesting perspective on these vital software tools.

As always please do RSVP so that we can manage things accordingly.

*We would ideally also like to include other trading platforms including JForex, Matlab, MultiCharts or indeed any other ‘off the shelf’ software. Please do get in touch with one of the co-organisers if you would like to be part of the panel.

hi wizards. I have been asked a question by a friend and thought I would poll the folk here. Out of those of you who are actively trading, can you recommend a good broker with reasonable fees? My friend was looking at Kyte and I was wondering if any of your good folk have any other ideas? Cheers!

Aly, with all due respect to your friend, s/he has to do his/her own due diligence. I would suggest starting here: http://www.trade2win.... and picking one with lots of reviews that fits his/her requirements.

A very big thank you to everybody that attended this event and especially also to our panel members. The objectivity and critical overview of the platforms was exceptionally refreshing, thank you again to everybody involved, including obviously the audience. Some follow up discussions from this event have started on the discussions board, please don’t hesitate to continue things online as there is obviously only so much that could be covered during this evening event.

    Good survey question, Jeremy.

What I would like to know after Friday's discussions about Metatrader4 - how stable is stable, when you say it about Metatrader4? I am wondering whether I should blame NinjaTrader when really it's Windows or the internet connection that is the problem. That would have been a good question for the panel - how does the software handle internet outages when running live?

24/7? Or better said, 24/5? I ran 20 systems simultaneously uninterrupted from Sunday to Friday for over a year and I saw probably every possible combination of trading / OS / network error including the strategy submitting orders and the connection going down almost simultaneously resulting in the strategy not knowing if it was in a position or not - this was Ninjatrader. Sometimes it would halt itself, sometimes it would assume it was flat, sometimes it would assume it was in a trade (sometimes correctly, sometimes incorrectly). I guess the broker is also a variable in the equation.

(FYI) I have started a threat in the discussions section, this is probably a better place, please see my comments there:

Being in Edinburgh means I can't be there in person but if there is a recording I would love to see it.

The issues surrounding trading platforms are always very interesting, my personal opinion remains that there simply isn’t a ‘one solution does everything really well’ out there. I have added a few multiple choice questions in the ‘polls’ section, it would certainly be good to try and get a better understanding of what is / isn’t important to LST members:

Many thanks Jeremy for organizing this. Are you considering including also wonderful It is more than competitive and offers features many of the above mentioned do not provide.
