LUUG 21 - Maritime Crisis
Hosted by LUUG - London Unity User Group
Details
Hi everyone!
We’ve got an awesome LUUG lined up for you this month in a great new venue! This month we’ll be in the lovely maritime Greenwich at the University of Greenwich. We’ve got some fantastic technical talks this time, covering OUYA development as well as how to use Arduino with Unity!
We’ve also got something special for ~25 lucky people before the main event kicks off at 7pm. The university has kindly provided us with use of a lab from 6pm to 7pm, so we shall be having an hour long “Beginning Shaders” tutorial led by Adam Buckner from Unity. There are limited places for this session, so I’ll be sending out a separate meetup event for that one. We’ll have a waiting list set up so if it fills up, do join the waiting list and I’ll send out a reminder a few days before to make sure everyone’s RSVPs are up-to-date.
Here are the details for the main LUUG event:
Presentations (7-9pm)
James Coote - An Introduction to OUYA for Unity3D Developers
James Coote is an independent game developer from Nottingham and is currently working to bring his latest title, Executive Star, to the OUYA in time for its launch in stores on June 25th. He has been following the OUYA story since day one and is one of the leading authorities on all things OUYA. His talk will take you through the process of getting your Unity3D game or app on to the OUYA, as well as providing you with tips and tricks, pointing out common pitfalls, and highlighting some of the best online resources available to Unity3D developers looking to port to OUYA.
Darrenlloyd Gent - Arduino and Unity
Darrenlloyd Gent is a Senior Lecturer in Games Design and Development and Digital Media at the University of Greenwich. One of the courses that Darrenlloyd runs is the Interaction Design Project which utilises Arduinos for interactive installations. In his talk, Darrenlloyd will go through the process of integrating and utilising the Arduino with Unity; implementing a variety of input and output components, to extend your Unity worlds beyond the keyboard, mouse and mobile device.
Ryan Flynn - Maritime City
Ryan Flynn is a Principal Lecturer in Games and Digital Media Technologies with a strong research interest in all aspects of games and education. He is especially interested in the use of games in education to replace or augment existing teaching and learning and he believes that technology will become a much more integrated part of education in the near future. His talk is on a persuasive game he has designed and created in conjunction with colleagues in the School of Health called Maritime City, which is being used to train Social Workers and other Healthcare Professionals.
Pub! (9pm onwards)
We’ve got an area reserved at the fantastic riverside pub next to the University called The Trafalgar: http://goo.gl/maps/e7UFE
Venue Directions
The best way to get to the campus is to go to Cutty Sark DLR station and walk east towards the campus. The event will be held in the King William building which is facing the Maritime Museum. Darrenlloyd has made some directions for us on google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/KjndT
Vacancies at Cinimod Studio
