HTC Vive VR Game Jam at PlayHubs London

Details

This is a slightly different event this time to our usual meet-ups, so look sharp and listen up!

We at Bossa Studios are helping Valve run a VR game jam, hosted by PlayHubs, supported by Unity, Epic Unreal and NVIDIA, using the HTC Vive Dev Kits.

This will be an EXPERIENCED LEVEL jam, for developers who can make VR magic happen and create awesome games in just 36 hours.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Here are the details (more to follow as we get them):

• It's going to be run at the PlayHubs office at Somerset House in London - address is above.

• It will start at 10am on Saturday 11th July, and will finish at 10pm on Sunday 12th July, so you have 36 hours to get your VR on.

• Team sizes will be between 1-5 people. There is space for roughly 40 jammers at the event space.

• You’ll need to bring your laptops to the jam.

• There will be a number of HTC Vive dev kits for people to use. We’re not sure of the exact numbers yet, but there may not be one for each team. That’s OK, because you’re all lovely people who genuinely believe that sharing is caring. Right? ;)

• There will be a show and tell on Monday 13th July at the same location - details for this haven't been finalised yet and will follow, but it's likely to run between 5pm and 8pm. This will probably be open to more people (gotta have someone to show the amazing results to, right?). If you are attending the jam you will need to attend the show and tell too!

HOW DO I ENTER THE JAM?

The list will be run in a slightly different way this time, it’s a bit fiddly and complicated, but you’re all smart, so I’m sure we won’t have any problems (and if we do, email me at poppy dot byron at bossastudios dot com and I’ll do my best to help). Ready for this? Here we go…

When you join the list, you’ll be placed on the waitlist. Each member of your team needs to join the waitlist. This is so we can run through your applications (kinda like the THREE TRIALS in Monkey Island, but there are five of them. We need to know a little about your team while deciding who to accept for the jam).

You’ll need to send me an email (email address in the line above) with the answers to these questions so we can pick who has been successful at getting a place at the jam. We will then add the successful teams as attendees. One email per team please. Use this title 'VR GAME JAM APPLICATION'.

1 - Who is going to be in your team, and what's your team name?

Between 2-5 people, all names to be added to the waitlist. By filling in this application for your team, you've nominated yourself as captain. Well done!

2 - Tell us about your experience in making games (for all team members).

3 - Have you attended many game jams before (for all team members)? If so, show us what you made!

4 - Have you designed any projects for VR previously (for all team members)? If so, link us (even if the stuff isn’t finished, we’d love to take a look).

5 - tell us anything else that you’d like us to know that will make us think - YEAH, I WANT THIS TEAM INVOLVED FOR SURE!

If you’re not accepted this time, worry not. We still love you, and there will be many other opportunities later on where we can all VR jam together, perhaps in a larger space.

Can't wait to see you there!
