HTML5 WebSockets and the Realtime Web (Oct last minute change!)

WebSockets are part of the new HTML5 specification and offer a new way of building real-time web applications without all the messy kludges currently in use.

Web Sockets offer a low-latency, bi-directional socket connection between browser and server and can be used to build everything from multi-player online games, social chat, real-time stock information, gambling and sporting event data.

Micheil from Pusher.com has graciously offered to step in at the last minute to give us an overview of WebSockets and the opportunities and challenges they present.

Micheil has been crafting things from code for the last 6 years. In that time, he has contributed to various open-source projects such as Node.js and Dojo Toolkit, judged in competitions such as The McFarlane Prize for excellence in Australian Web Design and Node.js Knockout.
