London Escapes is a walking and hiking group with a creative edge. 

Past and future
The group was created in May 2009 by Frankie who was inspired by a beautiful walk to Bodiam Castle. We currently do day trips and are building up to weekend trips in the UK now that we have a core group of members within the membership of 700. The future may well include weekend trips abroad. Walks are around 6 miles (10Km) with longer walks in the Summer.

We generally limit numbers which makes the logistics nice and friendly. Sometimes groups might be bigger if we team up with another meetup.

This year
In 2010 the group will be focusing on the 'creative edge' which makes us a bit different from other walking groups. Look out for visits to artists studios, small music festivals, special photography sessions and quirky rural cultural events. 

Highlights
Last year one of our highlights was the a visit to Swanage and the Pumpkin Festival and the Halloween inspired visit to Highgate Cemetery was also really popular.

Members
The group is a mixture of people who are new to the London area, and Londoners who would like to make new friends and connections whilst escaping the city confines. As group organiser, I aim to make the group more than just a series of events - it's a club of loyal members and friends. 

Members are welcoming and friendly to each other, give positive constructive feedback, and are encouraged to actively contribute to the group.

Break out of routine, watch the landscape change from urban grey to leafy green… before you know it the growl of traffic is a distant hum and tweeting is real birdsong!
