Raising The Bar

Improving ourselves as developers is a tough challenge. One of the main reasons for the LJCs existence is a space for us to learn from one another!

Over the years, we've seen that a combination of personal study, community events & formal training provides the best learning experience for developers, and helps push them further along in their careers.

In this session, Ben & Martijn will share their many years of experience teaching and mentoring developers to help you unlock the next levels of success in your career. We'll spend some time exploring what's missing within the Java training scene in London & what our event host, DeveloperFocus, can do to help fill that gap.

Throughout the rest of 2013 Ben & Martijn will be working closely with DeveloperFocus to produce a fully rounded Java curriculum - and we want your input as to what you want to see to help you be more successful!

Hey guys, I just put this post up to higlight the best Java trainers and courses in London - would be great if anyone has been on some good training if they could leave a comment:

Lots of good inspiration & I really like the DeveloperFocus courses. The one thing I'd love to see is compressed courses or evening/weekend courses. You need training to keep sharp but 4/5 days out is a lot of lost earnings. It was a good night!

We've started a Slideshare account for our jClarity presentations on Training, Performance Tuning and other Software Development matters :-).

    Feel free to peruse:

In particular the slides for the "Raising the Bar" event have been posted up.

Look forward to seeing many of you at future events and on our specialist Java courses with DeveloperFocus (

Great event guys. Very thought-provoking, and great points made about understanding fundamental (mechanical sympathy, JVM design, Linux), and I especially like the developer-to-developer information serialisation metaphor within the importance of communication.

Looking forward to seeing what courses are offered! If you're looking for any guest lectures/session on Java-based SOA/REST/Cloud then give me a shout ;-)

Could you also share the slides please? There are a few references that Ben mentioned that I would like to research.

I think people will still be there at 2100 (knowing the LJC crowd), but the formal part of the evening will be done by then.
