We need your help to ensure our city gets the Gigabit Fiber network it deserves and that it needs. Our goal is to ensure that the bond issue being voted on in November of this year (2013) to fund the rollout of low cost, highly reliable ultra high speed internet is passed. We expect a fight.

Why do we need a gigabit fiber network in Longmont?
Because: Rolling out this gigabit capable network will create new companies; it will draw in hundreds and possibly thousands of new jobs over the coming decade; it will put our children in the top 5% of the world for access to educational opportunities and in getting them ready for life in the 21st century. It will significantly raise our commercial and our residential real estate values. In addition, you, a citizen of Longmont, own this network. All the value it creates is added back into the City through the stabilization of utility rates, speeding up of services and providing new services. It is a true value creator for Longmont.

Unlike the cable and telephone networks we have today, who raise your rates every single year, it's not owned by a corporation back east that sucks money and resources out of our city. They do not give back to the city in any way. They are outsiders. They are value extractors. They will very likely spend hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next few months to spread Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt and Lies about the Fiber Bond issue.

Our job is counter those falsehoods and misdirections.

The Cities LPC (Longmont Power & Communication) group has been running the city owned electric utility for the last 100 years. It has been in business twice as long as Comcast. Longmont has some of the most reliable and lowest cost electrical bills in the region. This is a group that knows how to run a utility, has done it for a century and can do it better and at less cost than any other provider in the country.

Let's give our city the opportunity to show us, again, what it can do for it's residents and businesses. We will have meetings every other week starting the end of August. In October we'll likely have weekly meetings (or as needed). We'll be running a campaign similar to any other campaign to see that our city get's this bond issue passed this election.
