A group for long-term investors to gather, share opinions and viewpoints, and make their future financial plans. Though the focus of the media is short-term, our focus will be long-term investing.
Recently, long-term investors of every stripe have been shaken to their core by the steep decline in the stock market. Negativity abounds in the media and ludicrous statements such as "Buy and Hold is Dead" are gaining traction. Emotions such as fear can cause investors to make changes at inopportune times. Fear typically causes investors to sell low, while greed tempts investors to buy high. As long-term investors, we want to avoid making costly mistakes.
I envision the typical meeting including a talk about current issues in the economy and stock market and tying that back toward a strategy for long-term investments. This would be followed by discussion and question and answers. The focus will mainly be about investing, and not much about saving (ie, how to be a good saver).
Though I am a professional investor, I am not doing this to sell trading software or to sell my services (though if I gain new clients, I wouldn't complain). I am creating this meetup to help people with their investments and to do what I can to keep people from giving up on their financial goals.
