Los Angeles CoffeeScript

Carbon Five provides the infrastructure

Panda Strike provides the food and beer

Some programming and JavaScript experience is assumed.

Bring your own laptop.

What To Expect

Beginner Track
Carbon Five developer Arbind Thakur has created a self-paced tutorial, "The Essence of CoffeeScript". We'll have people floating around to help out should you get stuck.

Advanced Track
Since this is our first meeting we're intentionally leaving it a little unstructured. While we are presenting lightning talks we'd like to foster an environment for discourse so consider the talks as possible entry points into discussion about CoffeeScript related topics. If you'd like to present a lightning talk just let me know.

Lightning talks begin at 6:30
Michael Wynholds: Why CoffeeScript?
Dan Yoder: Why this meetup?
Unstructured discussion/whatever time…

We have limited space. You're required to RSVP.

Leave a comment about what you're working on, any CoffeeScript projects you may be bringing with you, etc. so others can see what you're up to.

I usually park on Wilshire and walk.

ParkMe has more parking information.

We have an IRC channel. "It's how hackers talk when they don't want to be overheard"

IRC: #coffeescriptla on Freenode

    For the new CoffeeScript hackers..

Thanks for all your feedback from the last (first) meetup!

I've made a bunch of behind-the-scenes updates to the tutorial from your inputs.

Plus I've also added a hot key-
you can run your code from within the editor now:
    Command enter in mac
    Control enter in win

If you'd like to continue from where ever you have gotten to, come on by the CarbonFive office tomorrow from 5:30 - 7.

And do let me know of anything else you come up with that could make it easier for other people to also get on board with CoffeeScript.

Very informative, amazing to see what's being done at Carbon Five - some really neat projects with Boardroom and the CoffeeScript tutorial. A great group of really knowledgable people.

Ah well, Tuesday would be better, have to skip Yoga for it. We have been working with Coffeescript in production for probably 2 years now...

I haven't started a CoffeeScript project, but I'm looking to use it on my next project.
