“In the future – and sooner than we may think – many aspects of our world will be augmented or replaced by computer systems that today are the sole purview of human judgment” – Viktor Mayer-Schonberger & Kenneth Cukier, Big Data: a Revolution that Will Transform How We Live, Work, and Think

What does the move towards “big data”— i.e. vastly increased power to collect, store, and analyze data – mean for the legal world?

Adam Long, veteran of several legal startups and currently with Praedicat, Inc., a risk management startup in Culver City, will join us to discuss how data analytics are transforming four areas of the legal world:

  1. How do we finding relevant documents from a vast sea of emails? (aka e-discovery and document review)

  2. How can we tell whether our law firm is over (or maybe under) charging us? (aka billing analytics)

  3. How can we figure out the best litigation strategy for our patent infringement case? (aka moneyball for patent litigators)

  4. How can we anticipate mass tort litigation and avoid it before the case even starts (risk management analytics)
