Extracting Big Intelligence out of Big Data through Excel

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/b/2/8/event_22843816.jpeg

Michael J Chen, founder and technical lead of BiBo Labs Inc (http://www.bibolabs.com), will have an open discussion on the extraction of data out of MongoDB into rich formula based Excel worksheets while incorporating formulas, aggregates, crosstabs, pivots, and charts.

Over the years, Big Data has primarily been focused on simplifying the capture and sharding of data at the expense of simplified standardized reporting.

This discussion is about how Segovia can supplement some of the pitfalls of NoSQL with an enterprise reporting framework. Through Segovia, developers, DBA’s and analysts can painlessly create sophisticated Excel report out of MongoDB.

You can see a vimeo about what will be presented: Part I (https://vimeo.com/42805700), Part II (http://vimeo.com/43161217).

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/b/0/a/event_120467882.jpegMichael J Chen is the founder and technical lead of BiBo Labs Inc. One of his responsibilities at BiBo Labs is development of their enterprise reporting product, Segovia. He currently maintains the data abstraction layer between Segovia and a variety of different data sources including relational and NoSQL databases.

Michael was the CTO at Prima Royale Enterprises, a footwear manufacturer specializing in OEM sales and development. During his tenure at Prima, Michael developed an enterprise supply chain portal for Prima and all their respective trading partners (factories, sub- contractors, buying agents, and retailers). Prior to Prima, Michael worked in enterprise asset management and licensing at Disney Consumer Products. There he maintained a database and rendering repository on behalf of Disney Feature Animation to all of the Disney licensees for all product categories.

Michael received his education in computer science from his father at a very young age on the IBM mainframe in COBOL, Assembly and DB2. He eventually continued onto more modern languages as time progressed. He received his undergraduate degree in business administration from USC’s Marshall School of Business. Michael can be reached at michael.chen@bibolabs.com.

BiBo Labs Inc. is an enterprise software company primarily focused on reinventing the software development lifecycle through the different types of frameworks and utilities. BiBo Labs Inc. is a spinoff from Prima Royale Enterprises, a footwear manufacturer specializing in OEM footwear for large chain stores (JC Penney, Kohls, Sears, K-Mart). A significant portion of the key technology within BiBo was developed from the enterprise supply chain system Prima Royale had adopted for the past 10 years.

Factual (http://www.factual.com)

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/sponsor/4/c/9/c/iab120x90_619612.jpeg founded in 2007 by Gil Elbaz, co-founder of Applied Semantics (which launched ASI's AdSense product). Applied Semantics was acquired by Google in 2003. Gil has had a lifelong passion for organizing and structuring information, and building smart tools which can make better sense of data. To that end, he set out to develop an open data platform and community in an effort to maximize data accuracy, transparency, and availability. Fellow data lovers -- Tim Chklovski, chief scientist & founding engineer, Eva Ho, an ex-Googler, along with Bill Michels, former GM of Yahoo BOSS, have joined him in this ambitious project.

Parking

Factual is in the Gateway West building, next to the Westfield Century City mall on the east side. It's the only building with big red "Westfield" signs on top.

We recommend you park at the mall. You get 3 hours free and our building is a short easy walk: Exit from the mall parking garage up to ground level, head east, pass the Lens Crafters, and you'll be able to enter the west side of 1801. Then just hit the elevators to go up to floor 14, and Factual is in Suite 1450.
