The Hermosa Beach bark trail (also know as Veteran's Parkway or the Hermosa Valley Greenbelt) is an out-and-back trail that spans 7.5 miles, with only 78 feet of elevation gain. Onshore breezes provide fresh air and a break from the summer heat.

The trail is wide, well-maintained, popular but not crowded, and well lit. The surface is tree mulch/bark chips and it is very soft, but somewhat irregular, so it will help prepare your ankles for more rigorous trail runs with more unforgiving terrain. This is an ideal run for beginners.

Leashed dogs are welcome on the trail and a common sight, and amazingly the terrain is free from debris--waste bag dispensers and trashcans are plentiful.

Mile marker 3 has a drinking fountain, park bench, and some fitness pull up bars and stumps. Near mile marker 2 is a public park with restrooms. The trail goes north for 3 miles, mostly running on a thoroughly mulched bark trail, with only 2 stoplight intersections. The trail ends at the Manhattan Beach trail head where it becomes the lower parking lot for Frye's Electronics. Turn around and return for a distance of 6 miles. Zealous runners may also complete the south end of the greenbelt for an additional 1.5 miles.

Parking: the best parking area is located two blocks south of Pier and Ardmore, on Valley drive, around 1035 Valley Dr, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254. It's a public parking area with free parking for multiple hours.
