upStart.LA Event co-sponsored by LADUG

EXCITING EVENT:  upStart.LA is a startup accelerator based in Los Angeles that helps tech entrepreneurs get their business up and going. They are holding an awesome event with great presenters and we are co-sponsoring it as our November meeting. I will have some great RESERVED seats for LADUG so get there at least 15 minutes early (I have to release any empty seats before the event starts). There is a $10 fee to upStart.LA to help cover event costs.

Please go to http://www.UPSTART.LA to read about the event and then click through to get your ticket through EventBrite - this will SELL OUT FAST so please move. DON'T FORGET to RSVP here at the LADUG Meetup also to get your seat in the LADUG reserved rows!  I will have the list with me.

President's note: I have been going to various startup events for about a year mostly around Santa Monica, which is the new LA startup hub (some are calling it "Silicon Beach").  We are seriously competing with Silicon Valley and San Fran and are now recognized as a key startup hub in the US - I like to think we might be ahead of Silicon Alley (NYC) :).  This is a chance for our members to get caught up on the great oppportunities - startup business is now a real business and not just a crap shoot - and there are real channels, real investors, real new methodologies, and this your chance to get caught up fast on the startup scene.

Dan Dato, partner at upStart.LA, is a friend of mine and he has put together an event where some of the presenters I have met when they were just starting on a wing and prayer.  There are people in our LADUG group who can do it too.

I really want our members to turn out for this so they can be part of it.  There are an amazing number of investors and business-oriented founders DESPERATELY SEEKING what are called TECH CO-FOUNDERS - that's YOU - that's US baby!  We are in demand!  As hard-core tech developers and leaders,  let's all take advantage of this energy and trend. - Richard Grossman

This was an intersting panel discussion on hi tech incubator startups.
One point that was raised, and one that I think LADUG can help with, is that many company founders have a difficult time finding a suitable technology partner. It seems that the incubators don't address this issue, I guess finding a technology partner is a pre-incubator decision. I think the technology incubators need to partner with some of the more technology focused groups, LADUG for instance, although LADUG already has a nice technology/business mix, to provide nontechnical founders a starting point in their search for technology partners. The incubators probably have a sizeable pool of founders in need of tech partners, just from their rejection lists. Adding a mechanism to introduce those people to a diverse set of technologists is probably a win-win.

I had a great time hearing from the panel and talking with other attenders. Richard did a great job of engaging everyone and I learned a lot from the brief conversations I listened in on.
