MAIN EVENT: What's So Great About... LightSwitch !
So you need to do an admin backend so that site administrators can maintain databases used in the website. On a Windows or Mac desktop, this would be a piece of cake, but on the web suddenly it's a big pain - all that coding just for data entry and maintenance.
If only there was a fast, painless way to do this. When I participated in Starup Weekend in August of 2011, I thought a hosted service, [tell you the name at the meeting], would do the trick, but it was horrible. At 4pm on Saturday I had nothing to show for a lot of dev pain, so in desperation I called Bruce Gilham. Bruce is a longtime member of LADUG and he's tried and thrown out more technologies than you've seen demo'd, looking for the ones that deliver.
I convinced Bruce to put something together for my project overnight, but it turns out he didn't stay up late because he used Lightswitch. Lightswitch is a dot net technology, part of Visual Studio or available stand-alone (and available to startups through the Microsoft BizSpark program hint-hint). Bruce swears it's the fastest way to put together web-based databased forms from start to finish.
Bruce is an awesome presenter and he's going to show us how fast you can build web-based forms starting with just a database. This is going to be another fun and exciting presentation. As always, it's developer-targeted but startup founders and business people are invited as well.
INTRO EVENT: Microsoft BizSpark
A quick description of Microsoft's BizSpark program. You can get the whole Microsoft dev stack by participating in this program for startups.
This location is now called COWORKS in the same space that was BLANKSPACES. It's right next to Buca di Beppo on 2nd St.
