National Association of Parliamentarians is the oldest and largest professional nonprofit association of parliamentarians. The Louisiana Association and Baton Rouge Unit are subsidiaries of NAP. Membership in NAP is achieved by passing a written examination on core concepts of parliamentary procedure. Concepts to be covered include:
Deliberative Assemblies
Parliamentary terms
Governing Authorities
Board and membership meetings
Rights of members
Motions
Minutes
Committees
Quorum concepts
Voting methods and calculations
Agenda and Order of Business
The Baton Rouge Unit will sponsor instruction to prepare attendees, even those with no previous knowledge, to take the membership test and become a member of NAP. The instruction will be led by experienced parliamentarians, including Alison Wallis, JD, PRP, CP-T, a professional registered parliamentarian and district director of NAP, and Nate Thompson, President of the Louisiana Association of Parliamentarians.
Course Details
When: Sat., August 24, 2013, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm (Registration 9:15)

Testing: After full preparation, students will take NAP membership test
Cost: $100 (includes dues)(students under 25 receive 50% discount)
Lunch Break: Brown bag or pick up lunch at nearby fast food sites
Registration: Attendees may write a check for $100.00 payable to BRUP
