Here's something I find fascinating: ancient traditions from Asia to ancient Greece figured out the same thing — that movement, breath, posture, gesture and focused attention don't just feel good, they change how you think and feel. Whether it was Warrior Pose or a Stoic pause-and-reset, the underlying mechanism is the same. The mind and body are always talking to each other. The question is: where are you in the conversation?
This isn't mysticism. These are testable, repeatable techniques your nervous system responds to — whether you believe in them or not. I've spent over 20 years as a coach, hypnotist, and NLP trainer. I've studied QiGong, Tai Chi, massage, energywork and somatic practices. I've watched people's lives transform most dramatically when they stop treating their mind and body as separate things and start letting both work together.
In this session, I'm going to share 3 exercises I use regularly in my RESET MethodTM work with clients:
Exercise 1 — Emotional Muscle BuildingTM Too often we feel stuck — struggling to get into resourceful states like confidence, relaxation, or flow, and struggling to move out of stress, anxiety, or procrastination. In this exercise we'll explore both the mental and somatic components behind these states and learn how to shift between them more easily. (Spoiler: it's more accessible than you think.)
Exercise 2 — Flip Your ScriptTM: Changing Internal Voices This one can feel a little silly — and that's exactly the point. Simple changes in voice, tempo, rhythm, and breath can dramatically change the way we feel about what we're saying to ourselves. Fun? Yes. Effective? Absolutely.
Exercise 3 — Seishindo BreathtakingTM An elegant exercise I co-developed with my mentor, Charlie Badenhop. It's one of the most efficient ways I know to interrupt the underlying patterns that run in the background when we're thinking or talking about something that's got us stuck. Now you can roll your eyes at people, talk to yourself, and breathe with purpose. These aren't concepts — they're experiences.
Get ready to have some fun, and change!
