NRG posted a brief video about the event: http://bit.ly/1aYQ1Ac. Some of you may be in it!

Was that your bumper/window sticker too?

No, that was on Dave Davidsons car.

Great news!!! The Centreville eVgo station is up. I was able to charge using my eVgo card on L2. The L3 charger was powered up as well, but I could not verify if it worked as I have a Volt.

Ugh! Feel like I've hijacked the Dulles Town Center eVgo Station post with my West Virginia meetup talk and definitely didn't mean for that to happen LOL! Would love to pursue the idea though and agree with Mark that it's best left till next Spring or Summer. The Town Center Freedom Station and other Northern VA public charging stations make the trip out to Charles Town VERY doable for many MDVolt.org members. Heck, coming home from NPID in DC back in September, I topped-off my Leaf at Westpark Drive near Tysons Corner and made it all the way home to Martinsburg with electrons to spare!

Another thing to consider on a possible MDVolt.org West Virginia Roadtrip is that the charging infrastructure in our three-county region -- known as the "Eastern Panhandle" -- actually extends quite nicely beyond the large solar parking canopy at American Public University in Charles Town. Multiple chargers are online just to the west along the I-81 corridor in Inwood and Martinsburg. Shepherd University, along the Potomac in Shepherdstown, has recently installed a solar array and three Schneider L2 EVSEs although they are not active at present. Public L2 stations even exist as far west as Berkeley Springs in Morgan County. A quick glimpse at PlugShare shows that we Panhandle Mountaineers have our EV act together much better than our Maryland neighbors to the north (Hagerstown / Washington County) and Virginia neighbors to the south (Winchester / Frederick & Clarke Counties).

It's 88 miles away for me. It might be best to do an overnight thing. Meet for dinner Sat. evening. Do the Casino/racetrack that night, then a meetup with the cars Sun. morning by the charging stations. They have a nice buffet in the enclosed area that overlooks the racetrack.

Would've loved to have made the drive down from Martinsburg, WV for this, but I'm a wedding DJ/MC and there's rarely a free Saturday in the wedding business LOL! Hopefully a future EVGO Freedom Station Grand Opening will be on another day not named Saturday and I'll be able to attend. Looks like it was a great event!

Charlestown is only about 70 miles from me, so I should be able to make it without stopping to charge.

      2 · November 18, 2013

    • Barry L.

Charlestown is more than a battery charge for me, but I'd like to make a day of it! Solar Canopies are cool!

Thanks to everyone who was able to come out today. NRG was very happy with the turnout to help promote their new Freedom Station and support their food drive. Hope to see you again soon. Have a great Thanksgiving!

I imagine they are all the same, but I haven't seen the others. My fear is that in Waldorf, the station is going to be right near the front of the building, making it ICE friendly. Dulles has very good signage, which was prompted by the mall owner, so I'm going to push for the same down here.

      3 · November 16, 2013

    • Mark C.

Vladi, I've been thinking a little more about your post and you are right, the NJ group on Facebook has posts of several L3's at the head of the parking space. I think they just want to draw more attention to it with the canopies and such. Not sure why they put it in the middle on the side. Perhaps it looks more like a fueling station on the side.

Will we be able to use the L3 unit with our Leaf? I'm coming from 55 miles away.

      Yes

Just contact Michael or David and they will let anyone outside of eVgo use the L2 or CHAdeMO on their company card.

I'll be there...just unfortunately with the Prius.

I'll be there, for the Cheerleaders if nothing else. Actually, I thought this location has been on for a while, but I guess this is the "official" dedication. I also noticed it had two Plugshare markers. The accurately placed one, I had modified and edited months ago, but somehow another popped up. Having used the Van Ness one for several weekends, I can attest to how useful they are.

Yes, this is the official grand opening with people from NRG and Lerner, plus, who doesn't want to Stuff-a-LEAF?

A few hours ago I just used a level 3 quick charge for free at Nissan of Chantilly VA. Received 7 bars of power to my Leaf in about 25 minutes. Not as fast as I had hoped but glad to give it a try finally. It really helped make this 110 mile day possible.

    1 · October 27, 2013

    • Jeffrey C. J.

I wish that had been available on National Plug-In Day; I'll be at Nissan of Chantilly next Saturday morning so I'll check it out but will be mostly full so won't be testing it like I do Dulles thoroughly.

Bar Louie is now open at One Loudoun, one exit West on Rt.7, which has two WattStations rather than Stone's Cove's one + a bunch of 120V tree decoration outlets that may be energized.

    1 · October 20, 2013

    • Mark C.

Ok. We may be going back to Stones Cove north of Baltimore in Dec. or Jan. so that would be fine too.

      1 · October 20, 2013

    • Jeffrey C. J.

You mean what Plugshare calls the Alamo Draft House in Ashburn Vladi? Well, I like Stones because they have good food and I'm sober for the most part. But sure, I like to try new places and 2 EVSEs is better than one for those who couldn't quick charge and weren't on the L2 long enough at Dulles.

I just wish eVgo would come out with better payment plans, than the $50 a month whether you use it or not.

    1 · October 17, 2013

    • Jeffrey C. J.

Well, isn't that free until 10 stations online, and we're far from that. And that's for a 1-year contract, not a 3-year which will cost me $30, $5–$7 more than I'm currently paying in my home electricity bill per month for 1,500 mi (2,400 km).

      October 18, 2013

    • Edward

I did not know that. I am curious to see what ChargePoint/CarCharging/Blink will do about their future fast chargers' fees. Will they be different than EvGo's?

It's a Grand opening when NRG and Lerner get involved. I needed to wait to sync the meetup with their event. I hope you haven't gained 20 lbs from the Cheesecake!

      1 · October 17, 2013

    • Jeffrey C. J.

LOL! I did do Cheesecake once while waiting, but usually I go inside and do Starbuck or Vapiano as well as hit the head past the food court upstairs.
