Hiking along the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail (8-10 miles ~ 3.5-4 hours)

  • Jul 13, 2014 · 11:30 AM

Once again, we are proving that no event or holiday is so sacred that you cannot hike during it.  We have hiked on Easter, Christmas, the Super Bowl, World Series, and now, we take on the World Cup.

The Plan
An 8-10 mile hike along the Waterloo-Pinckney trail starting at Park Lyndon North, a Washtenaw County park that the trail passes through.  The Waterloo-Pinckney trail is 36 miles long and goes from Pinckney (at Silver Lake) to Grass Lake Township (at Big Portage Lake) and has many side trails attached to it.  Dogs on leashes are allowed.

The Meeting Spot
The parking lot for Park Lyndon is on North Territorial Road about 1 mile east of M-52 and about 6 miles north of Chelsea.  There are two entrances to the park, one on the north end, one on the south.  We will be at the north entrance.

Satellite map of meeting spot (good for directions)

Washtenaw County Park's attempt at an interactive map of the area (probably more interesting than useful)

We are parking at a Washtenaw County Park and there does not seem to be an entry fee.

Smokehouse 52 BBQ in downtown Chelsea. 125 S. Main Street, Chelsea, Michigan 48118.   It is about 6 miles away from Park Lyndon directly south on M-52.  They have some vegetarian friendly dishes and a whole gluten free menu upon request. They also serve your typical bar drinks and beer refreshments.

I created a Youtube page with silly videos from my adventures with MAC. Two videos from this hike are posted there. Here's the link to the playlist. Enjoy!

Hello Blessed! You need to click on the link for the map to the park, click on "get directions" and then put in your address. It will tell you the distance and the time it will take. :)

Soccer is so boring that the fans have to riot and rush the field just to add some excitement to it. Maybe if they had some cheerleaders on the sidelines there boredom would at least be diverted enough to contain their boredom and rage. Lol :)

Moderator, yesterday one of my comments related to Football was deleted - could you delete those other hateful comments as well? They don't add anything to the group spirit. :-)

Sorry about that Christa!!! I guess we got a little to carried away with our joking around. BIG apology to you. Thanks for bringing that to our attention. (No one deleted your comment, unless there was another one.) :)

I would love to go, but I have tickets to see Alison Krause and Willie Nelson. Timing would be too tight with the drive. World Cup???

      Enjoy the show Janet!

Wish a hike like this could be EARLY morning---for personal convenience and the world of nature is at her finest just after dawn. :)

I could give a rats patutie about a bunch of guys hitting a little black thing with long sticks into a net too! (That is what the world cup sport is, right?)

    • Wendy P.

Hey Jonathan, pick the place, I'll post the event, you lead the hike. Hitting the trails at dawn for some good photo opportunities would be fun too.

I would definite join if the hike were starting earlier during the day. I don't want to miss the FIFA world cup final either.

It is the day of the Futbol Worldcup FINAL. I can't miss that one. Otherwise, would love to do the Potawatomi trail again.
