NFC Cluster Boston Kickoff Event: NFC Delivers Mobile Retail Marketing
November 7, 2011

Start: 6:30pm End: 8:30pm Location:
Park Plaza Hotel
50 Park Plaza
Boston, MA 02116

NFC-enabled smartphones let merchants track how online offers directly translate into sales at brick-and-mortar stores. That includes location-based deals that show up on the phone wherever the consumer happens to be. The phones tie ads, coupons and loyalty cards to actual in-store purchases. So just tapping your phone on a terminal not only lets you pay without cash or credit card, it also lets you redeem coupons downloaded off the Internet or add points to a loyalty card.

Think of it as Groupon on steroids. From online to offline, mobile retail marketers never again need to lose their connection to the customer.

It’s a vision a lot of big players are buying right now — like Google, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express — plus all the major wireless carriers and smart phone vendors. Major initiatives are in the news every day — Google Wallet, ISIS, and eBay buying Zong and Boston’s own WHERE.
