St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in Montreal as far back as 1759, after the Conquest, by Irish soldiers of the Montreal Garrison. In 1817, the beginning of the Irish community here, the observance of St. Patrick's day was marked by special dinners and the celebration of religious services. The actual celebration of a St. Patrick's parade commenced on March 17, 1824. Michael O'Sullivan, lawyer and member of the Parliament of Lower Canada, was the main organizer of this public display. In 1836 he was appointed Chief Justice of Lower Canada but unfortunately he died in 1839. The St. Patrick's Society of Montreal was founded by prominent Montrealers of Irish heritage on March 17th, 1834. They became the organizers of this parade until 1892. HELLO FRIENDS

It’s that time of the year again!
St-Patrick’s Day is almost upon us and we are once again looking for vivacious
volunteers to participate in the parade!
This year’s theme is
“Be a Super-Hero - Rescue Me!”.

a dog,
we invite you to
dress him/her
in a
super-hero
costume!
Events like this one just wouldn’t be possible without the support of the SPCA’s extended family & the volunteers!
Here are the details…
Likely be 2 to 3 hours, starting at around 10:30am (the front of the parade starts moving @ around 11:00am).
We will meet in the staging area on Rene Levesque Blvd. (near St-Marc & St-Mathieu) with the gang from the SPCA.

Roles to be filled:
Walkers with their own dogs (the dogs of the SPCA are not available).
PS: Some of us may have an extra one for you to borrow! LOL
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT
ALL DOGS MUST BE
CROWD & CHILD FRIENDLY
AND MUST NOT BE SPOOKED
EASILY!
Clothing and supplies:
Please dress accordingly.
This year, the SPCA will supply volunteers with green super-hero capes they can wear in the parade (they will be a decent size, easily worn over your coat or jacket).
