Are you a Caver or Climber?

How did you Learn about This Group?

Just by looking through the Albany Meetups.

What made you initially Interested in pursuing Caving or Climbing to begin with?

The rush. I started parachuting which was expensive, and then I started climbing, which was free. Plus, with top roping, it's more social.

Are you a Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced (Expert) Climber or Caver?

Ten years ago I was a solid 5.6/5.7 follower. I'd lead 5.5 PG's and up to 5.6 if the pro was a G. I wanted nothing to do with R's or X's. I'd top rope 9's, 10's and 11's, but never flashed them (maybe flashed an occasional 9). No big wall experience. I'd love to do that someday though. I was probably an intermediate for 3 pitch climbs. Though that was a decade ago; So, today, I'm going to have to say that I'm a beginner again.

Do you have any special qualifications or expertise you can share with the Group (Make Your Own Gear, Specialize in Ice Climbing, Certified Trail Guide?)

I have a bunch of gear to share, friends, stoppers, beaners etc (not a full rack though). I also have an extra saddle and a sweet whitewater canoe that can fit a lot of gear if there was ever a whitewater/backcountry/climbing meetup. Special skills: I'm a dive master. Some of those skills I believe are transferable: first aid and CPR training (they are expired now though), knowing limits, very aware of how the weather can turn things bad real fast--checking NOAA, awareness of surroundings, respect for the environment and general responsibility for myself and others. Also completed a 3-day backcountry survival class, not a primitive class. It was more about knowing how to keep yourself out of trouble in the first place and then second on how to get out of it if something were to go wrong.
