Intro to supervised learning [with hands-on exercises]

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the first Meetup of ML India- Gurgaon.

For the first meetup we will be starting off with the intro to supervised learning along with some hands-on exercises. If time permits, we can discuss the paper: A Machine Learning Approach to Twitter User Classification by Marco Pennacchiotti and Ana-Maria Popescu [Link] (http://www.aaai.org/ocs/index.php/ICWSM/ICWSM11/paper/view/2886/3262), which talks about detecting user's political affiliation, ethnicity and affinity for a particular business using rich linguistic features on user's behavior, with an application to Twitter.

We will be doing most of our exercises on an iPython notebook and hence you will be needing (python and some other python libraries):

• python

• pandas

• numpy

• scipy

• matplotlib

You can install all of these via pip once python has been installed in your laptop.

These are good to have, but if you are not able to install them don't sweat. We can make groups and perform these exercises.
