Book club members,
Back in October, when Marlene accepted a new job and stepped down as organizer, the bookclub was in danger of dissolving. Several of us came up with a way to keep it going - I would handle the website and meeting scheduling and a few others would lead the book discussions. Most of the discussion leaders have moved away, left the group, or just don't want to do it any longer and as much as I'd like to, I don't have time to keep up with the reading.
I really don't want to see the bookclub die, so what we need is a organizer. If someone is willing to do it, I would show you the ropes and share all the venue scouting information I have. If no one steps up as organizer, we would need at least 3 people who would be willing to lead the discussions and I would continue to set up the meetings, etc. However, if you volunteer to lead discussions, you will be required to lead at least one of the discussions each calendar quarter and you may not be leading the discussion for a book that you particularly liked. The nature of our club is to get people to read books they may not select on their own and we can't predict whether a book will be a stinker or not. That's just how it works.
So, absent either of these solutions, the bookclub will close down following the June meeting, where we will be discussing Ella Minnow Pea. I hope someone can step up and take over our wonderful bookclub. With 275 members, it would be a shame to let it go:-(
