I especially enjoy activities that are conducive to small-group (4-8) conversations with interesting people about interesting things. That sort of excludes loud, crowded bars and monster truck rallies. On the other hand, quiet, half-empty bars and/or electric car rallies would be just fine.
I seem to spend a lot of time with friends in the Rathskeller at the Memorial Union.
My day job is on the UW-Madison faculty in Atmospheric Science, but I'm also lead guitarist and manager for a working classic rock cover band. Neither one by itself is all that unusual, but the combination... I'm also the treasurer for South Central Move To Amend (scwmta.org), which is helping build grass-roots support for a constitutional amendment to get money out of politics -- please consider getting involved in this important, non-partisan cause! Last (and probably least), I created the Energize Activities meetup group and WAS the Organizer of that group until December 2011, when I finally resigned myself to the fact that I no longer had time to do justice to the group as Organizer and happily turned the job over to Jean's capable hands.
I created this group after experiencing a similar one in San Diego. My motivation was to broaden my social horizons beyond just family, co-workers, and immediate neighbors. And guess what .. it worked! :)
