June Main Line Writers Group - Critique

The June Main Line Writers Group meeting is Critique Night! Get constructive feedback on your current writing projects by other members of the group.

You don't have to bring anything to the group if you don't wish to do so. You can participate by offering feedback on those who do bring pieces for critique and are welcomed to do so.

If you do wish to have a piece critiqued, please follow these guidelines: - Bring a piece or excerpt from a piece approximately 5 pages long - Please bring ten copies, double spaced and typed - If you would like to distribute it ahead of time, please contact Gary at [masked]. We often need to break into smaller groups to ensure that all pieces get a reasonable amount of time for reading and reviewing. If you send it to me, I will ensure that it gets to people who have indicated that they intend to come to the meeting.

Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant Deli in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia,[masked]-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speakers or each other.

Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Michaels does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are very reasonably priced.

Mark your calendar for every third Wednesday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.

As usual, any questions, please contact me, Gary Zenker, at[masked] or [masked]. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

As always a wonderful meeting. I would like to thank Tony for supplying the website address so I could read the glowing review for Unclaimed Baggage. Even though I had no part in the anthology, I still take great pride in knowing everyone who did. Computer challenged I more than likely wouldn't have gotten to the site without Tony's help .
Today on NPR I listened to the pro and cons of self-publishing. During the program as if Amazon were some form of Evil Empire there were far more cons than pros. Admittedly I am basis, but I know without self-publishing a great many wonderful authors would remain unpublished and unknown. For most of us I think it is not about dollars and cents. It has more to do with being heard. Like everyone else I have the dream of someday grabbing the gold ring and becoming rich and famous. I never loose sight that it is only a dream and more than likely will never happen to me, but I will continue writing just the same.

Critique night at Mainline Writers Group was fascinating as always. Lots of variety, interesting topics, and unique voices in the works presented and detailed, helpful-critiques proposed. Great fun!

Wonderful evening as always. Even though I didn't bring a piece myself, I enjoyed reading and commenting on other people's work and our group had some terrific stuff to read. It was also great getting to talk to other writers and receiving that burst of positive energy that always comes from being in a group of creative people.
