March Main Line Writers Group meeting - A SIMPLE SYSTEM TO ROCK YOUR REVISIONS!

The March Main Line Writers Group meeting - Wednesday, March 19 - A SIMPLE SYSTEM TO ROCK YOUR REVISIONS!

You've finished novel (or story), and you've done your happy dance, but now it's back to business. You know your work needs revision but where do you start?

This presentation has got all of your questions covered. Discover a systematic way of navigating your revisions and making sense of that first draft. You'll learn a step-by-step process for revision to guide you from rough draft to polished manuscript. No one said revision would be easy but with this simple system, it can be manageable and fun.

Gabriela Pereira is the Creative Director and Instigator of DIY MFA, the do-it-yourself alternative to a Masters degree in writing. She creates tools and techniques to help serious writers get the benefits of MFA-style learning without going to school. She holds an MFA in Writing from The New School and has taught at several organizations throughout New York City. When she's not teaching or working on DIY MFA, Gabriela enjoys writing middle grade and teen fiction, with some "short stories for grown-ups" thrown in for good measure. Learn more at DIYMFA.com.

Julie Duffy is the founder and Director of StoryADay.org, an annual creativity challenge for short story writers held each May and a member of the Main Line Writers Group.

Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant Deli in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia,[masked]-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6:00 pm) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speakers or each other.

Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Michaels does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are very reasonably priced.

Mark your calendar for every third Wednesday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.

As usual, any questions, please contact me, Gary Zenker, at[masked] or [masked]. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

Gabriella and Julie gave a stupefying talk, and managed to weave their voices as if there was one speaker. They gave us more than revision- they basically told us how-to-write-a-book! Complete with advice on structure, characters, including protagonists, antagonists, and minor characters, archetypes, setting, description, tone, voice, desire, conflict and plot. phew. And they made it look easy and seamless!!!! Incredible! clap, clap, clap. Thanks, this couldn't have been better timing for those of us neck deep in revisions !!

The one thing I knew diving into the writing world was that I had a lot to learn. This meeting opened my eyes even more to that fact. The meeting was showcased the process of doing revisions. The best part was how to use this step-by-step process to fix problems in your stories and what to look for when you get stuck. It was a great learning experience. The amount of information this group is willing to share far exceeds the member dues. This group keeps me excited about writing and sharing ideas.

Gabriella Pereira of DYIMFA.com and our own Main Line Writers Group member Julie Duffy who runs StoryADay.org gave an awesome presentation. Their system on defining a better and more efficient process for managing revisions showed us how to organize our revision work to make it more efficient! THey clearly knew their topic - the sessions was well organized and easy to follow. And there was a lot to learn!

The group had a lot of good questions and the duo handled them expertly.

Thanks to both of you for giving such a quality and well structured presentation!

It was well worth the time! I am so glad I am a member of this energetic and productive and caring group. Julie and Gabriella were professional in all aspects of their informative presentation. Meetings like this are a must for writers. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a resource as the MLWG be so accessible to us right in our own community.

I've only attended one meeting since joining the group. I will have forgotten the names of the kind, helpful people; but, I look forward to a new beginning.. My own fiction writing hasn't been making much progress either. I'm hoping the Spring will energize me . . . As well as attending our meetings. See you next Weds. Ruth

It was my first visit to MMLV. It was organized in a very professional way. Gary was there to help me with everything, starting with a mini orientation, and giving me leads whom should I contact to get even more advice for my writing.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
