August Main Line Writers Group - Critique

The August Main Line Writers Group meeting is Critique Night! Get constructive feedback on your current writing projects by other members of the group.

You don't have to bring anything to the group if you don't wish to do so. You can participate by offering feedback on those who do bring pieces for critique and are welcomed to do so.

If you do wish to have a piece critiqued, please follow these guidelines: - Bring a piece or excerpt from a piece approximately 5 pages long - Please bring ten copies, double spaced and typed - If you would like to distribute it ahead of time, please contact Gary at [masked]. We often need to break into smaller groups to ensure that all pieces get a reasonable amount of time for reading and reviewing. If you send it to me, I will ensure that it gets to people who have indicated that they intend to come to the meeting.

Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant Deli in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia,[masked]-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speakers or each other.

Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Michaels does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are very reasonably priced.

Mark your calendar for every third Wednesday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.

As usual, any questions, please contact me, Gary Zenker, at[masked] or [masked]. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

Would there be a few kind literary souls who would be interested in reading my short story as soon as it is ready and make suggestions for the October critique? Thanks...

Critique meetings are always great - a chance to get good advice, a chance to improve your own critical skills, and a chance to see the exciting things that other members are working on.

Knowing what you're supposed to do, and remembering to institute it with each line, are two different things. This group keeps you on your toes!!!

Awesome awesome awesome. So many people brought pieces to critique. So many talented writers sharing their work! Stayed after for another hour or so just to keep chatting with these great people. A perfect combination of learning and socializing!

My nonfiction philosophy/neuroscience is not the norm. I did get some useful suggestions for simplification.

Yet another wonderful, fun gathering of like-minded souls sharing the fruits of their labors, sharing advice. Critique night is always interesting and rewarding. A lot of talented folks come together to form friendships and support one another. As always, it was a lot of fun. Do yourself a favor and come to the next meeting.

This was my first critique with Main Line Writers Group, and it was a very positive experience. I received a lot of helpful feedback on the two chapters I brought with me, and I enjoyed reading the work of my fellow group members. I'm a newbie to Main Line Writers, but I'm already impressed by the wealth of knowledge and talent in this group!

Excellent critique session as usual. Didn't bring something myself but got to comment on some very interesting stories in several different genres. It was also interesting to hear other people's thoughts, especially when they disagreed with my opinions. Definitely makes you think about your own writing.

Although I haven't met with your group yet (I look forward to doing so in the future), I am actively writing and getting ready for NaNoWriMo. You all might be interested to know that the Harford County Public Library, where I work, is offering a writer's conference [Just Write, $50)] on Sunday, September 29th. You can also pay an additional $50 if you want a manuscript read by one of the presenters.

And here at my branch in Havre de Grace, MD, we are offering a 4 session series to get folks ready for NaNo (free) on Monday evenings
    First session is Sept 16th.

All of these have guest presenters, both the conference & and the Write a Novel: You Can Do It workshop series.
