Polyhedra Party and Talk by Stacy Speyer

Artist Talk: From Weaver to Geometer
See the changing arc of Stacy Speyer's artistic focus: From large-scale installations of dyed and woven sewing
thread to woven geometric investigations. This led to an artist residency at the Exploratorium, a book full of fascinating
photos of her polyhedra, and a few LED projects along the way.
Polyhedra Party: Color & Construct Cool Geometric Forms!
Come make polyhedra (3D geometric forms) from 2D patterns called nets! Artist Stacy Speyer designed her own
collection of nets with different patterns that show off the symmetry of these amazing shapes. Start by coloring in the
patterns to make them all your own or jump right into cutting, folding, and taping to construct the polyhedra!
Each person will make at least two forms*: One for you to take home and one to add to a new Geometric Installation at
the Maker Media Lab!
Supplies provided for the Polyhedra Party workshop: nets with patterns, markers, crayons, scissors, tape, and a
polyhedra enthusiast!
*Warning: After making two forms, many people find they want to make a bunch more! To help with this need, Stacy is
putting together collections of her patterned nets into books called 'Cubes and Things.' Soon you will be able to spend
many happy hours coloring, cutting, and constructing your own polyhedra! Find out more at polyhedra.stacyspeyer.net

My creative passions shift between a hunger for knowledge and a constant drive to make. Past art projects range from
large scale woven installations to geometric objects made to answer mathematical questions. I'm happily moving through
a cycle of learning and sharing.
