March Meetup: Erm, when was that? Community calendaring...

We've now got five fantastic speakers from the sector of community event publishing coming along to the meetup now.  Ranging from well-known platforms such as Eventbrite and Sched, through to emerging projects like n0tice and community focussed initaives locally and in the USA.

Please make sure you can join us...

--------------------------

There are tons of events going on - how do we best publish, aggregate, filter and share them?

Google Calendar? Lanyrd? Facebook? N0tice? All/none of the above?

Our focus this month will be on effective ways to pool together information on events and activities relevant to our sector.

We've a range of speakers and projects to share - by all means get in contact if you have something to add...

Speakers:

---------

Marvin McTaw from Sched.org will join us remotely to talk about their platform - in use across thousands of conferences and festivals.  First highlighted by Wired magazine when in use at SXSW, Sched.org's content management system combines calendaring, social interaction and analytics to help eliminate event management headaches.

----------

Sarah Hartley from n0tice will join us to talk about their hyperlocal notice boards.  For a local example - check the Manchester Histories Festival!

---------

Jon Udell will talk about the Elm City Project - which is "rethinking the community calendar".  This projects brings together event information from a variety of sources and websites - enabling people to search, filter and subscribe.  Using web standards is a core of the project - check out the calendar for Manchester (in New Hampshire!)!

---------

Caroline Lai will also be on hand to talk through their use of Google Calendars in the Warrington Community Calendar project.  The challenge here - how to aggregate events from multiple community groups - is something we are all familiar with....

---------

Katie McPhee will also join us.  Katie is the UK Community Manager for Eventbrite - a site many of us have used to book places on numerous events previously.  If you hadn't heard, then Eventbrite is an online service that people everywhere use to create, share, and join any event imaginable.

Update: John Popham will be along to live stream the event - details to follow

Really enjoyed the meetup, despite the (unexpected) heat and connectivity issues. Was wary that five speakers was probably *too much* for one meetup, but it is a subject that is very interesting. As Guy suggests, maybe a more practical session could be a good follow up...

If you RSVPed as Yes, then you should have an email. Otherwise, try http://www.meetup.com/Mancheste... to see if it'll let you rate it there.

Might be being really stupid here but where's the link to add a rating?
Also, what's the link John's feed of Manchester (UK!) events?

Excellent event last night. Great range of speakers that really brought the pitfalls and potential of community calendaring alive. Looking forward to setting a couple up myself asap!

Interesting. Pity about the AV hickups. Maybe for future meetings on similar topics, a straight education session too would be good (this is ical , and these are the tools...) as well as case studies and champions for what they do

    Excellent presentations, really interesting. Shame we didn't get to hear more about Sched, but that was Madlab's web connection's fault. Wonder if we could get Marvin to talk again/;

Hi There, Steve & Co - GREAT topic and one which has resurfaced this week, thanks to the TEDx talk of @MartinSFP.

So - Thanks, I'd like to talk please if you still have a slot, and after last night's Techcelerate have just set up a calendar! And yes, you guys are on there :)

BTW: @oceanician told me I'd missed this already. If I have, that would be highly ironic! Hope not!
