This week we will discuss the basics of GIS using the free QGIS software: http://www.qgis.org/en/site/ .

The principles also apply to ArcGIS, but since QGIS is free and open source, it is a skill you can take with you anywhere! If you have a laptop, please feel free to bring it with you and follow along.

· How to check and set coordinate system and projection

· How to edit data

· How to style layers

· How to make and export a map
