It's that time of year! Let's talk about starting a garden....

It's that time of year to consider what we are going to plant in our gardens. Tomatoes, Peppers, Potatoes, Lettuces... OH MY! What do YOU want to look for in a tomato for the garden?

I'll talk about what I do in this area of Georgia and discuss what I do to start my tomato and pepper seeds inside for planting in mid-April! I'll also show you a "Scissors Lettuce" planting.

There is so much to do!

My favorite tomato is Better Boy. The worst tomato is Patio. Lots of folks (mostly women) like heirloom tomatoes but I think they are nothing special. Water your tomato plants with Viagra and you won't even have to stake them. Plant them over the septic tank and you won't have to salt them. Last year was so wet I never even got my vegetable garden plowed up but did manage to plant tomatoes which did poorly. I grow a lot more than tomatoes: Pawpaws, figs, pineapple guava, seedless American persimmons, grapes, blueberries, mulberries, Asian pears, apples, plums, English walnut, Che, pomegranate, and jujube.

Better Boy has always been one I grow in my garden. However, I will not be growing any of the "Boy" tomatoes again as they are a Monsanto product. I just don't "do" Monsanto any more. There are far too many genuinely tasty and interesting tomatoes to grow to give way to something that I do not support. Patio was always a marginal grower due to its small size.
