I've created a theoretically-based but computationally tractable method for empirically measuring skill in poker, and more generally, for measuring the role of skill in games of incomplete information with chance elements. Think: bridge, scrabble, poker, hearts, spades, backgammon, blackjack. The purpose of the group is to talk about the concept, refine it as much as possible, and if I'm lucky, to find a computer scientist and a statistician to work with me on creating a new venture. Anyone who is interested in poker theory, distributed computing, algorithmic optimization, data storage, statistical computing, and statistical modeling is welcome. A current copy of the paper will be handed out at the first meetup.
