"Crony capitalism and failure to pay-as-we-go hurts Texas families and Texas business." --Debra Medina

Today’s Reality

Spending Grows

  • Texas’ budget for 2014-2015 will spend $197 BILLION up from $189.9 BILLION in 2012-2013
  • Texas will use $68.7 BILLION (35%) in Federal funds to support the 2014-2015 budget (34% in 2012-2013)

Debt Grows

  • Texas ranks 2nd in the nation in per capita local debt— behind New York and ahead of California 18% of gross state product per person allocated to debt service
  • Increasing at 30% per year
  • Texas local governments will pay $95.9 BILLION in interest over the life of the debt
  • Texas ranks 5th in the nation in combined state and local debt—behind NY, CA, IL and PA

A Brighter Future

  • As Texas State Comptroller, Debra Medina will advocate for fair and just tax policy. Our current tax structure is antiquated, unjust and does not meet the needs of Texas families and communities. We must eliminate the property tax and adopt a system that will treat tax, not as punishment but as a fair and just share of the cost of state and local government.
  • As Texas State Comptroller, Debra Medina will seek to serve as an advocate for free markets, a resource to the legislature and the people providing objective, relevant, and faithful (complete, neutral, and free from material error) information about the fiscal condition of the state.
  • As Texas State Comptroller, Debra Medina will advocate for measures that will protect the Texas economy, Texas businesses and Texas families from the ravages of economic uncertainty and instability in the U.S. and global economies. With the 14th largest economy in the world, Texas has the human and natural resources to be independent, free and prosperous. Our place in the United States should be one of leadership not one of dependence. Texas must exercise her sovereignty and leverage our economy to serve as a beacon of the great ideas of history leading to a more free and prosperous society for all.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
