Boat and walk - St. Peter’s Island on Lake Biel
Details
We leave Berne at 09:53 reaching Biel at 10:16 and walk to the boat embarking wharf. The boat leaves at 10:40 and arrives at St. Petersinsel Nord at 11:30.
After a few minutes’ walk, we have lunch at the peninsula’s lovely restaurant. The place offers a good selection of fish menus as well as various other plates. For details of the menu, see http://www.st-petersinsel.ch/download/StPetersinsel_Tageskarte_St_Petersinsel_2014.pdf
After the meal, we walk along the Heideweg (natural reserve) to Erlach (approximately 1 hour). There we may have ‘Zvieri’ in one of the restaurants in this small but pretty historic village. For details, see http://www.erlach.ch/de/tourismus/sehenswuerdigkeiten/welcome.php?action=showobject&object_id=2848 It is advisable to wear good hiking shoes and provide yourself with anything that may protect you from sun exposure since there are no trees on the way offering shelter.
We return by bus to Ins with hourly connecting trains to Berne. Cost for forward journey: a combined train/boat ticket, based on ½ price fares: Berne – St. Petersinsel: CHF 20.30 (The Libero-Abo is not valid since we will catch a fast train to Biel)
