Javascript Framework Head to Head and Lightning Talks

AngularJS Fundamentals

Basarat Ali Syed

The immediately attractive feature of AngularJS is probably its databinding support, But it also gives so much more, and is ever improving. Remember when C# gave you generics, then Linq and lambdas, then dynamic? I get the same feeling every time I look at a new version of AngularJS. Its the good parts of Microsoft PRISM framework for XAML, but this time its for HTML. Excited yet? Come in and have a look.
BAS just loves what the web is becoming, and is really glad that the pain is going away.

Maria MVC – Web Apps done right

James Ladd

My learnings implementing a rich web application using the Maria MVC library. What MVC is and the approach that kept me out of trouble, plus a little about extending Maria and why you should use it over say AngularJS.

Some interesting discussions at todays meetup. Thanks to the organisers and sponsors for putting on a good meetup. Angular won for me tonight!

I hope it's okay to do a shameless plug for my meetup Wednesday, July 17, I would love to see some familiar faces there :)

Thanks for being a great audience. It was great to have Nick / Andrew / Ryo / Scott / Tim from http://picnicsoftware.com in the crowd, to support me, so thank you again guys! The venue was awesome (thank you shine technologies ... I even got a whiteboard!) and of course thank you Leah for arranging everything! Quick plug: I will be giving a more concentrated, more indepth talk just on AngularJS Directives at DDD Melbourne next month http://www.dddmelbourne.com/agenda

I liked the presentations, nice work :)

I did a presentation myself on AngularJS a while back, at my workplace. The fact that you can have multiple Angular apps on the one page came in handy, as it allowed me to embed all the examples directly in the slides. Here's my slides if anyone's interested: http://dan.cx/talks/angularjs/ (I don't think I covered as much as the presentation today did, though)

Hi BAS, I've been using AngularJS for a two to three months now, I am wondering if it's more of a decision making related talk as to whether to use AngularJS or not / how technical it will be. I suppose to put it another way, what I'd be most interested in is using aproaches for using directives with asynchronous data, or course any good tips too. Would be pleased to hear your comments.

Just threw in a short code sample / demo with async into the presentation :)

Thanks BAS. FYI I've already settled on choosing Angular going forward, and am past the basic parts too. Looks like you know your stuff though, but sounds a bit like it might be covering what I already know then (and I am totally jammed for time at the mo). FWIW, async stuff is not a problem for me, it's async with directives that's a $*&% from my experience so far. Perhaps it was just getting my head around directives and async data needing substantial use of watches and $scope.$apply() though that was the hard bit.

will you be demonstrating cross browser automated unit testing for angularjs using testacular?

    June 24, 2013

    • BAS (Basarat Ali S.

Not demonstrating this time. But we are using karma (new name of testacular) at picnicsoftware so I might be of some use offline.

Compelling reasons for choosing AngularJS over Knockout or other similar Modelbinding supported lib.
