This MelbJVM we have Szymon Szukalski presenting a brief overview of the Nio.2 features and providing an example of using the file system watch service and asynchronous file I/O.

Nio falls behind the scenes of many common tasks in the JDK so you may be have been using it all along without knowing. The topic will help understand a bit of what's actually going on.

There will also be lightning talks from Andrew Gillett (Strings in Switch in Java 7) and John Sherwood with an overview of New Relic from a non-vendor perspective.

We welcome our new sponsors, Shine Technologies (http://www.shinetech.com) who'll be providing food and beverage, and thanks as always to Peoplebank (http://peoplebank.com.au) for providing the great venue.

Info on getting there:

Peoplebank offices are on the south-west corner of Flinders Lane and Queen St. Doors lock at 6pm but someone from Peoplebank will be downstairs to let people in. If when you get there, no one is present, call 0432603743 and we'll send someone down. We also will be having a raffle, so when you get to Level 13, there will be someone to greet you, get a nametag, and also put you in the raffle draw. For those driving in, there is $10 flat rate after hours parking on Market St, between flinders lane and flinders st.
