Hi everyone,

I live in the northern suburbs (Thornbury) and though I've been wanting
to make it out to CCHS for a while, the 90+ mins of public transport
each way has discouraged me so far. However, I have something which
might be of interest to some of you, or which you might like to pass on
to people you know out this way.

I'm involved in the sustainability movement and in various related
groups out this way, and for a while I've been envisioning something
that combines the best parts of the hackerspace movement with the best
parts of the sustainability/self-sufficiency/DIY world -- a maker space
that would support all kinds of makers, including everything from bike
repair to DIY workshops to craft nights to 3D printing parts for a
community garden's irrigation system. In short, a maker space with a
wide range of "making" and strong connections to the local "green"
community. Both sides have lots of keen people, and I'm hoping that by
bringing them together there can be lots of cross-pollination and really
exciting projects.

Anyway! We're looking at venues and talking to the council and starting
to get the ball rolling, and we'll be having our first meeting on
Wednesday 28th November, at Preston Library. More details here:

I hope to see some of you there, or if not, for our northern suburbs
maker space to collaborate with CCHS in future at maker faires and the
like! Please, if you know anyone else who might be interested in this,
feel free to pass on this email to them.
