If we can fall in love with serving people, creating value, solving problems, building valuable connections and doing work that matters, it makes it far more likely we're going to do important work. Melbourne Knowledge Week (http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/knowledgeweek) (MKW) organised by the City of Melbourne is an annual celebration of all things knowledge. From Monday 27th October to Sunday 2nd November, MKW brings together the best innovators, tech-heads, entrepreneurs and experts in our city. Melbourne Silicon Beach is sending out an invitation to the general public of Melbourne, interested in the tech/startup space.

This is a good time to showcase your mobile/web app or startup to the public. Come prepared to network and pitch. We are expecting a lot of visitors (people who don’t usually come to events like this), since all MKW events are extensively promoted by City of Melbourne.

Since MKW falls within the Australia wide Startup Spring 2014 festival organised by #StartupAus, we are being promoted on their web site as well.

Please invite your friends and colleagues not on meetup.com to this event. We will be relaxed about allowing non members to this event. It's open to the general public.

This event is part of Melbourne Knowledge Week 2014, proudly presented by City of Melbourne. For more information visit http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/knowledgeweek

You can check out all the other tech related MKW events here (http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Whatson/knowledgeweek/Pages/techdata.aspx).

News

Federal Government is talking to us, finally!

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/c/7/c/600_422727772.jpeg

The Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Bruce Billson, Federal Minister for Small Business along with other officials were at Hub Melbourne (http://hubaustralia.com/spaces/melbourne/) on 15th October. They had a press briefing there and made the announcement regarding changes to ESS (Employee Share Scheme) (http://www.startupsmart.com.au/government-and-regulation/governments-move-to-fix-employee-share-scheme-welcomed-by-startups.html) and other reforms that affect startups and small business.

We were invited along with organisers of other meetups, co-working spaces etc. We got a chance to provide our input regarding reforms and start an ongoing consultation process with the Minister.

Read the reactions (http://www.startupsmart.com.au/financing-a-business/tax/employee-share-scheme-changes-a-good-start-but-still-a-long-way-to-go/2014101513428.html) & the policy here (http://www.dpmc.gov.au/publications/Industry_Innovation_and_Competitiveness_Agenda/docs/industry_innovation_competitiveness_agenda.pdf), and post your thoughts below or get in touch with us. We will collate your ideas, suggestions, comments and present to the Minister over the coming weeks. This can only be good for startups. Watch this space!
