This is our main, monthly networking event. It used to be called MSB Drinks.. now renamed MSB Drinks & Pitch Night.
New to Silicon Beach? Scroll down to "For the Newbies" section below but best of all, come and find out for yourself.
We are opening the Sept meetup to non-members via Eventbrite (http://bit.ly/SeptMSB). Share the page with your friends outside of meetup. Feel free to bring your team - http://bit.ly/SeptMSB
It's going to be one of the biggest nights with Founder Institute (http://fi.co/) joining us with their pitchers and mentors. Come and join the fun. If you like to pitch for the Melbourne intake of the Founder Institute, you need to fill the form here (http://fi.co/e/103161).
90 Second Pitches at the August MSB Drinks & Pitch Night
This livestream is brought to you by the kind generosity of our sponsors.
TCF Services (http://www.tcf.net.au/): Contact them for the low down on R&D Tax Incentives for tech startups
There were other pitches with no websites. If you plan to pitch, please create a website (try Strikingly (https://www.strikingly.com/) for a quick & easy website in minutes) or upload your pitch deck to slideshare.net (http://www.slideshare.net/) before the pitch night.
We have a bunch of events, workshops and classes listed on our meetup page. All organised and hosted by our partners, Collective Campus (CC) and General Assembly (GA). Check out and attend what takes your fancy. The reason we partner with them is to inspire and empower your startup.
Here's a brand new podcast every Silicon Beacher should subscribe to. Have a listen and don't forget to check out all the startup goodies at the podcast website
Here's a brief run down on what happens at a MSB Drinks -
We keep everything unstructured and informal, just like a startup. This is an event all about YOU. It's about providing you the time and the space to make connections, meet new people and find your team, or fine tune your idea. Even if you have no idea what you are going to work on, after talking to some of the people you meet on the night, you will walk out with some sense of purpose. Keep coming back and you will soon be on your way…
On the night
Get to the venue around 5:30pm to mingle and have a drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic (there is no bar tab). Around 6.30pm we will start the main proceedings - the world famous Silicon Beach 90second pitches. We say that because we live stream it on Periscope (https://www.periscope.tv/) and save it on Silicon Beach TV (http://bit.ly/siliconbeachTV) YouTube channel for the world to see.
If you plan on doing a pitch, please give your web address to a friendly event host before the pitches start, so we don't waste time typing it in. Other than that, there is no selection process to do a pitch. You can pitch just about anything provided it's useful to the community - your startup or app, idea validation, small business (provided it's relevant to our community), professional service, product etc. Pitches need not be about raising funds. Our best startups are bootstrapped.
Pitching at MSB Drinks have been on and off for a number of years and some notable Melbourne startups have lost their pitching virginity on the Silicon Beach!
We suggest you upload a quick one page website if you plan to pitch. This way you get maximum bang for your pitch. We recommend Strikingly (https://www.strikingly.com/), a very easy to use DIY web dev platform. No coding required.
We like to keep things short and sharp. Each pitch will be limited to 90 seconds and if we have time those looking for work or looking for a tech co-founder or devs can pitch for 30secs earch. We try and limit the pitch segment to under 45 mins, so everyone could get back to the main purpose of #msbdrinks - making connections with other Silicon Beachers.
Please note we will be live streaming, videoing, photographing and audio recording at #msbdrinks and many of our other events. Please be aware that when you RSVP, you give consent to be filmed & posted on our social channels and SiliconMedia - SiliconNews (https://medium.com/silicon-news), Silicon Beach TV (http://bit.ly/siliconbeachTV)& Silicon Beach Radio (http://siliconbeachradio.com/)
